Reviews Overview

Most Liked

Patrons often highlight the flakiness of the fish and the perfect crisp of the batter, which is not greasy as one might fear. The cheesy chips also attract much love, providing a delightful accompaniment to the main dish. Visitors appreciate the friendly service that adds to the overall experience, with many raving about the warm welcome from the owner and attentive staff. The relaxed atmosphere, enhanced by classic radio tunes playing in the background, adds to the charm. Those in the know also mention the authenticity of the cuisine, boasting freshly caught fish made to order, a hallmark of this family-run establishment.

The restaurant's longevity speaks volumes, reinforcing its reputation as a Bristol staple for indulgent fish and chips.

Most Disliked

Some guests find the seating a bit cramped, especially during busy lunch hours. The restaurant's modest size may limit comfort for larger groups, which can detract from the experience. Additionally, a few visitors mentioned instances of broken sauce packets, leading to unwelcome spills. This minor inconvenience, while not a dealbreaker, is something to be mindful of when enjoying those delicious dipping sauces. A few diners felt the decor could benefit from a refresh, as it presents a vintage vibe that some might find dated. However, for many, this old-school charm is part of the restaurant's appeal.

Despite these concerns, the overall consensus leans towards positive experiences, making it clear that the fresh food and great service often outweigh any minor drawbacks.

A cute, old school eatery with British classics - simple food, radio playing and relaxed atmosphere. Such a warm welcome from the owner and smiley waitress who served me up my huge chippy tea very quickly. The fish was flakey and battered not greasy. Plenty of sachets of tartare and ketchup. Would go here again when craving fish and chips.

The restaurant was right in the alley but it was quite a surprise for us. The shop was quite small and to be honest quite aged - like a restaurant that you see in a 60’ movie. However, the fish and chip was hot and yummy. The staff was nice and the vibe was really good - the seats were a bit cramped but comfortable enough for a small and quick lunch. The only complaint was some of the sauce packs were broken so you might have had chances to have touch some sauce packs with leaks.

Lovely family business that's been running for 57 years. Authentic vintage sitting area, the owner/head chef was a lovely man that looked after our order. It was freshly caught fish and made by order. Definitely to go to if you are looking for the best fish and chips at Bristol 👍🏼😊

Family- owned business with great atmosphere, lovely owners, and great food! Was told by a friend to go and get Fish'n'Chips and this lovely place came up in my Google search, so I ended up here by chance. If I'm ever in Bristol again, I will come back.

I love fish and chips, and it is something I will try first wherever I go. I’m very happy that this place is in Bristol, where I live. I think this is the best chippy on this country, out of hundreds I’ve tried. The owners and waitress are very friendly, I hear from my friends for the same as well. The price isn’t bad, and fish is never soggy here. One note I wish to leave, is that they don’t open on Sundays and Mondays. This place is just so good that I would wish it to open everyday. I don’t leave that much rating, but for this chippy I will need to give five, or if possible six. I genuinely wish the owners and all the workers there to have prosperous business. The world need to know more about this fantastic place.
